Norman John Carlson passed away at the age of 93 on Friday, March 22, 2024
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad. Livestreaming will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com
Memorials are preferred to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or St. Croix Hospice.
He was the son of Arvid and Elizabeth (Bierl) Carlson, born in Ashland, Wisconsin on October 4, 1930. He moved with his parents to Mankato at the age of one year. He attended SS. Peter and Paul’s and Loyola Catholic Schools. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Korean War and served aboard the USS Missouri and the Casa Grande. He married the love of his life, Rosanne Hollerich, on October 1, 1955 in Good Thunder. He was employed by Continental Can for 40 years. After retiring, Norman enjoyed traveling, woodworking, hunting with his two grandsons, and teasing his granddaughter. He was a member of the American Legion, lifetime member of VFW 950, DAV, and Korean War Veterans Association. Norm was an usher at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for 30 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynell (Steve) Rohlfing; two grandsons, Mitchel Rohlfing and special friend, Stephanie and Garett (Ashley) Rohlfing; granddaughter, Christi (Cody) Baker; and two great-grandsons, Henry Harrison Baker and Max Norman Rohlfing; and sister, Helen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosanne; his parents; and sisters, Doris, Rita, Thelma, and Marie.
