Northview-North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 507-388-2288 Orlo Henry Steffen, age 72 of Mankato, died Saturday evening May 4, 2019 surrounded by his family at home. Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in North Mankato. Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Friday at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Orlo was born March 17, 1947 to Henry and Florence (Kropp) Steffen in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. He graduated from Morton High School and then served his country in the US Army from 1966 until 1969. After his years in the service he graduated from Mankato State University. Orlo was united in marriage to Patricia Welch on March 5, 1966 in Morton, Minnesota. He was worked for the US Postal Service for over 39 years before retiring in 2013. Orlo was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #11, MAHA, Postal Union and the Corvette Club. He was active in coaching Legion Baseball and soccer. He liked to go to car shows, had Maverick Hockey season tickets, and learned to skate in his fifties playing in the C Hockey League. Most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren following their activities. Orlo is survived by his wife, Patricia; two children, Tracy Steffen and Terry Steffen all of Mankato; three grandchildren, Justin, Jordon, and Casey; great-grandson, Aidan; three siblings, Faye Vander Low of New Ulm, John Steffen of Sleepy Eye, Rick (Diane) Steffen of Franklin, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry.
