Ovia Marie Beckmann, age 94, of Mankato, died on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Laurel’s Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault.

Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ovia was born on January 29, 1925 in Rochester to Joseph and Gertrude (McConnell) Rice. She graduated from Eyota High School in 1943 and then from Winona State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science and an Associate degree in Education. On September 1, 1962, she married Donald Henry Beckmann at the St. Augustine’s Church in Austin and he preceded her in death in June of 1992. Ovia was an elementary teacher in Kenyon and Austin and then she was a substitute teacher at Lincoln Jr. High School in Mankato. She loved spending time with her grandkids, reading and planting flowers. Ovia volunteered for VINE Faith in Action and the North Mankato American Legion Post 518.

She is survived by sons, Greg (Marybeth Redmond) Beckmann of the Seattle, WA area and Mark (Carla) Beckmann of Owatonna; and grandchildren, Jacob and Emily Beckmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; and nine siblings.
