Pastor Gene Glade

Pastor Eugene “Gene” C. Glade, age 87, of Mankato, died Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2019 at Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Hosanna Lutheran Church and will continue one hour before service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hosanna Lutheran Church.

Gene was born February 10, 1932 to Erwin Otto and Ella Johanna (Bremer) Glade in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He graduated from Ocheyedan High School, St. Johns College in Winfield, Kansas and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Gene was united in marriage to Patricia L. Rupp on August 26, 1962 in Luverne, Minnesota. Gene’s first pastoral call was at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Mankato. He started and built the campus ministry and chapel at Mankato State University. He served Trinity Lutheran Church, Hudson, WI and then returned to Mankato to Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mankato where he retired in 1996. After retirement he served as a parish pastor in New Zealand. Gene and Pat were part of mission trips to Latvia, Egypt, and New Delhi, India. Gene enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat of Mankato; three children, Nathan (Kris) Glade of North Mankato, Dana (Becky) Glade of Hudson, WI, and Kim Tilghman of Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren, Jordyn Glade, Che Mellum, Connor Glade, Sam Glade, Nathan Nelson, and Andrew Nelson; great-grandchild, Milo Mellum; brother, Joel (Carol) Glade of North Mankato; sister, Karen Schroeder of Akron, IA; brother-in-law, Chuck (Gail) Rupp of Portland, OR; many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gordon Glade, Frederick (Carol) Glade; brother-in-law, Ron Schroeder.

Gene was about Grace – writing, reading, and sharing it with others. He was a Pastor in and outside of church.
