Pat was born September 17, 1961 in Watertown SD to Leonard and Jeanice Malimanek.
In his early years, the family moved to Albert Lea MN. Pat played baseball/softball. He ran cross country and track in high school. Pat graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1979. After high school, Pat attended Moorhead State where he continued to run.
On September 17, 1982 Pat was involved in a car crash that left him a C-5 Quadriplegic. In 1984 he moved to Courage Center in Golden Valley, MN for independent living skills, which is where he met his Sharon. They lived in St. Paul for a number of years and then moved to Cottage Grove. Together Pat and Sharon had two boys, Lucas and Eli.
While the boys were young, Pat was a Cub Scout leader and coached t-ball/baseball. He enjoyed the boys beginning hockey years in Cottage Grove and continued through their high school years in Albert Lea. In Albert Lea Pat would assistant coach whenever possible. He enjoyed being with the Albert Lea cross country and track teams, and coached the Jr track program for several years. Pat loved sports of all sorts. Pat also worked at Halvorson Elementary supervising and tutoring students.
He was a crossbow deer hunter and camping was a big part of life as the boys grew up. Pat made many friends throughout his life. In whichever town Pat lived, everyone knew him as he “wheeled” through the streets.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Lucas, and Eli; siblings, Mike (Laurie), Vicki Lunning, Sue (David) Srp, Tim (Venus), Scott (Brenda); father-in-law, Richard Kampa, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Patrick was preceded in death by one unborn child; two unborn grandchildren; parents; brother, Mark; brother-in-law, Steve Lunning; mother-in-law, Jackie Kampa and other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato, ICU for their wonderful care.
