Peggy was born on September 22, 1933 to Myrtle Clark and Walter Klages. She grew up in Mankato, attending Union Elementary School and Mankato High School, graduating in 1951. Peggy worked at the Candy Kitchen and at the Citizens Telephone Company. She met Jerome (Red) Sheehan in 1949 and they were married in 1952. Peggy joined Red at Camp Rucker, Alabama, where he was serving in the US Army. After a 2-year stint, they returned to Mankato, where they made their home and started their family. Their daughters Patricia and Pamela were born in 1953 and 1956, respectively.
Red started Mankato Plumbing and Heating with Peggy’s help in 1963. The company grew in size and scope and was a part of the Mankato business landscape for 47 years. In addition to the business, they acquired real estate holdings that were largely managed by Peggy over the years. The Sheehans were known for their generosity and the kindnesses that they extended to the many people with whom they crossed paths. They were benefactors of the Loyola High School sports program and the Schola Foundation. Peggy also volunteered her time at St. Joseph’s Hospital for several years. In addition, she was active in the Old Town Association and was a long-time member of the Prime Timers Board at Community Bank.
Peggy and Red’s family of two daughters grew to include three beloved granddaughters and six great grandchildren. They were the pride and joy of Peggy’s life. She loved to have everyone together at family events and holidays. In later years, she enjoyed taking her family on vacations where many lasting memories were made.
Peggy was part of a large and lively circle of long-time, loyal friends. She was known for her sense of humor and her easy-going, fun-loving personality. Peggy was steadfast and supportive and saw her friends through the many ups and downs of their lives, without hesitation. She was well-known and well-liked and will be missed by many. She and her daughters, granddaughters and great grandchildren, all located in Minnesota, enjoyed a precious closeness born of mutual love and genuine camaraderie.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jerome (Red) Sheehan, her seven siblings Walter Klages, Bud Klages, Lorraine Cuddy, Kay Morris, Bob Klages, Donna Herr and Edie Branger and her parents, Myrtle and Walter Klages.
She is survived by her children and their families: daughter Patricia Sheehan (Susan Olive) from North Oaks, MN; daughter Pamela (Michael) Ryan from Mendota Heights, MN; granddaughter Brigid (Jeremy) Ling and their children Caleb, Emmett, Mairi and Francis, from Mendota Heights, MN; granddaughter Courtney (Michael) Yurczyk, from Bloomington, MN; granddaughter Megan (Andrew) Kuefler and their children Harrison and Alma, from St. Paul, MN, and many nieces and nephews, including her close friend and niece Helen Cuddy, from Richfield, MN.
Peggy’s family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice, Patty Mejias and all the loving caregivers who helped to make her passing so peaceful.
