Phyllis Cole

Phyllis Cole, age 95, of Mankato, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at her home surrounded by her children. 

Phyllis Maxine was born at the family home in Spencer, SD on June 27, 1929 to J. Dwight and Ora (Wharton) Morrow. She graduated from Watertown, SD High School in 1947. She attended South Dakota State University where she met the love of her life, Clinton Cole. They were married upon graduation in 1951. She taught grades 1-8 at a country school in Elk Point, SD for one year. At that time she became a stay at home mother to her four children. When her children were grown, she worked at the University Bookstore at MSU where she made many friends and enjoyed working with and talking to the students. She was an avid gardener, skilled seamstress, and knitter. She enjoyed visiting shut-ins, friends and family. She was a long-time active member of Hilltop United Methodist Church, serving on many committees throughout the years. She was also a member of the Little White Church in Hill City, SD where she had a summer home. 

Phyllis is survived by her children and their families: Julie Cole of North Mankato, MN, James (Kay) Cole of Hill City, SD, Lori (Rob) Boeckman of Webster, MN, and Patti Cole of Mankato, MN; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Harold Tisdell. 

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hilltop United Methodist Church, Mankato with visitation from 9:30-11:00 prior to the service. Following the service, join the family for food and fellowship. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Gary, SD. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
