Richard James Davis, age 80 of Mankato, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

 

Funeral service will be held at 6pm, Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary with visitation one hour prior. A reception will follow the service at Northview. Per Richard’s wishes, after the funeral, he will be donating his body to the University of South Dakota for the advancement and education of healthcare professionals. Dick was born November 2, 1938 in Miller, SD to Everett and Mildred (Pugsley) Davis. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1956. Afterward, he attended the Worthington Community College and then as a member of Delta Sigma Pi fraternity, and graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion in 1960.

 

Following graduation, he was employed by S.S. Kresge until opening his own business in Mankato, Dick Davis Typewriter Co. from 1963 to 1994.  Afterward, he was employed with the City of Mankato for 15 years.

 

Dick was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years, the Sertoma Club, Lions Club, and the Mankato Jaycees.

 

Dick will be deeply missed by his family and friends, pool and dart teams, hunting and fishing buddies and motorcycle friends. He will always be known for his fun and witty sense of humor.  A special thanks to his DaVita Dialysis family and friends of five years.

 

Dick is survived by his children, Greg of Waconia, Vicki Henry (special friend, Michael Galler) of Mankato, Jon (Leslie) of Minnetonka, Gary (Jana) of Eden Prairie, Sara of Mankato, Jerry of New York City, and Tim of Elysian; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Linda (Daryle) von Holdt of Sarasota, FL and Larry (Sharon) Davis of Worthington.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jay; and brother, Edward.
