Richard "Dick" Dean Van Brunt

Richard “Dick” Dean Van Brunt, age 82, of Mapleton passed away at home on Saturday, October 24, 2020. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the United Church of Mapleton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Garden City Cemetery, with full military honors.

Dick is a current member Faith Bible Church in Mapleton and a former member of the United Church of Mapleton. He enjoyed spending time with his family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, curling, meeting with friends for coffee, going to the casino and traveling with his wife. He served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1962. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Blue Earth County Highway Department for 32 years.  He volunteered with the Mapleton Fire Department from 1973 to 1999, serving as fire chief for many years.  After he retired, he worked for Massop Electric, grading Sterling Township roads and opening and closing the Mapleton Laundromat. 

Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice; children, Lori (Brad) Schiller, Vickie Foty, Jim (Beth) Van Brunt, and Sue (Russ) Boelter; grandchildren, Zachary (Logan) Foty, Alex (Mariah) Foty, Brittany (Josh) Friederichs, Jonathan Foty, and Michael Schiller; great-grandchildren, MiKinley, Adalyn, Waylon, Wyatt, and Audrey; siblings, Doris Teel, Raymond (Vonda) Van Brunt, LeRoy (Judy) Van Brunt, Shirley (Dan) Conway, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Mapleton Fire Department, or the American Cancer Society.
