Robert "Bob" Lamont

Robert “Bob” Lamont, 81, of rural Madison Lake, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Bob was born on February 28, 1943, in Waterville, Minnesota, to Mason and Margaret (Kinrod) Lamont. He graduated from Waterville High School and then completed barber school. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Nelson, on February 16, 1963, and together they raised their 8 children.

Bob started his work as a barber in St. Peter and then opened his own barber shop in Madison Lake. He was employed at the Mankato Law Enforcement Center in building maintenance and later worked as a grain handler at Farmland Co-op. He retired in 2005 after working at MnDOT doing custodial work and road maintenance.

Bob was active in many organizations over the years, including the Madison Lake Fire Department, Blue Earth County 4-H as a leader, MN DNR as a firearm safety instructor, All Saints Cemetery Board, Madison Lake Historical Society, and Le Sueur County Pioneer Power.

As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, birdwatching, and gardening. He also enjoyed raising small animals and birds. Other hobbies were collecting tools, attending auctions, woodworking/whittling diamond willow sticks, completing jigsaw puzzles, and listening to polka music.

He enjoyed socializing with everyone he met. Known as a “jack of all trades,” he was always willing to help family and friends with any project. His family was important to him, and he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara; 7 children, Anita (Norman) Stevens, Steven (Tina) Lamont, Brian Lamont, Lisa Alitz, Karen (Kevin) Kennedy, Beth Lamont (John Lundgren), Dustin (Kacie) Lamont; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Marge (Ralph) Fuhrmann, and brother-in-law, Donald Nelson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane, and his parents.

Visitation will be at Mankato Mortuary on Wednesday, February 19 from 4PM to 7PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, February 20 at 10AM at the Church of the Nativity in Cleveland, Minnesota, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
