Robert Arthur Sandt, 93, of Lake Crystal, peacefully met Jesus October 16, 2023, with his family present.
Mass of Christian Burial 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, Holy Family Catholic Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born April 27, 1930, in Fairmont, MN to William and Gertrude (Renger) Sandt. Bob attended Catholic School in Fairmont through 3rd grade. The family moved to Sherburn where they lived on a farm. In 1946 the family moved to Lake Crystal, when Bob was a sophomore. Bob excelled in sports - football, basketball, baseball. Made all state in football in 1947 and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1948. In 1948 Bob began college at St. John’s University but left after 1 semester to run the family farm as his father was ill.
On July 7, 1951, Bob married Mary Ann Mitchell at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Bob and Mary Ann loved each other and together enjoyed square dancing, growing in their marriage through CFM and Marriage Encounter groups. They also enjoyed traveling to Israel, Hawaii, 17 trips to Branson, MS, 10 years wintering in Florida, family trips to northern Minnesota, the Black Hills, Yellowstone Park, Washington, DC, and California.
Bob served on the Co-op board, Lake Crystal School Board, and was a member of the Lions club. Bob was a trustee at Holy Family Catholic Church, as well as serving on various board positions throughout the years. He was a Eucharistic minister for 20 years.
Bob and Mary Ann loved their family - grandchildren, great grandchildren, enjoying boating, water skiing, gathering for holidays.
Bob was a good farmer, good neighbor, and good friend. His favorite pastime in retirement was working with stained glass making angels and ornaments for family and friends.
Bob is survived by four children, Judy (Jim) Clasen of St. Paul and their three children, Nicole (Scott) Pierskalla and children, Emma and Clara, Ana (Walter Jr.) Munson and their children, Monica, Walter III and Van Daniel, Rebecca (Richard) Thompson and their children Eloise, Madeleine, Laurence, Theodore, and Sebastian; Nanette (Dennis) Clark of Rochester and their children, Amanda Clark, Rachel (Daniel) Hesch and their daughter, Teagan; Lisa (Michael) Miest of St. James and their son, Kyle (Miriam) Miest-More; Mike Sandt of Lake Crystal and his children, Katy (Matt) Jones and their son, Sawyer, Thomas Sandt and Hanna Mendenhall; sisters-in-law, Ev Mennenga and JoAnn (Gene) VanOverbeke; four nephews, Doug Mennenga, Jeff (Christy) VanOverbeke, Jason (Holli) VanOverbeke, and John (Lauren) VanOverbeke and their children, Miles and Talia.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sandt; granddaughter, Alica Clasen; sister, Phyllis Peterson; brother, Gerald Sandt; special niece, Renée Lucian.
