Robert "Bob" John Weiss

Robert “Bob” Weiss, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, December 23, 2024.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, cards and memorials can be directed to the family. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 22, 1947, in Minot, North Dakota, Bob was the son of Jesse and Luella Weiss. He was 77 years old.

Bob graduated from Minot High School in 1965 and pursued his passion for art by earning a bachelor’s degree from Minot State College. During his high school years, he met the love of his life, Becky Broyles. The couple married in 1966 at the First Presbyterian Church and shared 58 wonderful years together.

Bob found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was at the lake, tending his gardens—which he transformed into beautiful miniature parks—or laughing with his grandchildren. His passion for travel led him and Becky on many adventures, with his favorite being a memorable cruise through the Panama Canal.

Bob’s professional life was marked by his dedication and compassion. As the Foundation Director at Mayo Hospital in Mankato, he helped raise an extraordinary $17 million for the Andreas Cancer Center, a legacy that brought him great pride.

Bob also devoted himself to serving his community. A past president of the Rotary Club, he represented his club at the international conference in Denmark. His exceptional contributions were recognized with the Paul Harris Fellow Award, the highest honor given to Rotarians.

Bob’s hobbies reflected his zest for life and diverse interests. He was a certified BBQ judge, created intricate stained-glass artwork, participated in the Single Action Shooting Society of America, and volunteered with the police reserve. He enjoyed pheasant hunting with his son, Eric, and had a deep love for dogs, particularly Springer Spaniels and Labs. Bob served in the National Guard from 1966 to 1971.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Becky, and his adoring family: daughters, Christy (Neil) Tryhus and Amy (Scott Wilmar) Zachary; son, Eric (Jen Nielsen) Weiss; grandchildren, Jessica (Scott) Villery, Aaron (Miriam) Tryhus, Alex Tryhus, Caitlin Zachary and Benjamin Zachary, as well as bonus grandchildren, Isaac, Nova, and Avery True. He was also blessed to welcome his first great-grandchild, Leo Robert Villery, the family gift of 2024.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Luella Weiss, and his brother, William Weiss.
