Robert I. Smith

Robert I. Smith, age 95, of Mapleton, died on Monday, October 28, 2019.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mapleton.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.  Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mapleton.  Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born on April 6, 1924 in Mankato to Ira and Elizabeth (Egli) Smith.  He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1942.  Robert was united in marriage to Darlene O’Connor on December 27, 1951 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mapleton.  Bob farmed for 88 years in Mapleton.  He was very active in Sertoma for many years.  Bob loved collecting gas engines.

Bob is survived by his wife, Darlene of Mapleton; four children, Michael of Mankato, Debra (Raydean) Radke of Amboy, Patrick (Linda) of Mapleton, and Gregory (Erica) of Mapleton; five grandchildren, Jared (Stacy) Smith, Jennifer (Ryan) Hastings, Jason (Stephanie) Dickie, Mary (Matthew) Mahowald, and Stephanie (Nathan) Holt; and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Stephen and David; and brother, Thomas.
