Roger Allen Jones, age 86, of Lake Crystal, died Sunday, September 25, 2022.

A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at the church and one hour before service on Friday. Interment will be in Jerusalem Cemetery, rural Lake Crystal. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or an organization of the donor’s choice. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Allen was born December 8, 1935, to Roger D. and Ida J. (Owens) Jones in Mankato. Roger graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1954. He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1957-58. Roger was united in marriage to Carol M. Howard on October 26, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church. Roger began his career with the Lake Crystal Telephone Company which merged with the Mankato Citizens Telephone Company, where he retired from in 1997. After retirement Roger continued his tree trimming service, AKA, “The Piss Elm Barber”. Roger was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge, Lake Crystal Jaycee’s, Lake Crystal Fire Department, and Lake Crystal Rodeo Days. Roger “The Horse Whisperer” loved horses and enjoyed driving his horses and carriage for wedding and many parades, Roger and Carol enjoyed wintering in Arizona for over 20 years, and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol of Lake Crystal; five daughters, Gail (Brian) Larson, Jill (Kevin) Sorensen, Gwen (John) Herbst all of Lake Crystal, Kim (Scott) Fredericksen of Glenwood, MN, and Jackie (John) Graham of Lake Crystal; eleven grandchildren, Lindsay Gilman (Matt Meyer), Seth (Leesa) Gilman, Erica (Mike) Finnegan, Nick (Sarah) Stokes, Kelsey Sorensen (Michael Graham), Tony (Jenny) Herbst, Laura (Zach) Johnson, Brian Fredericksen (fiancé, Cassidy Brougham) Drew Fredericksen, Maddie Graham (Dallas McBroom), and Carter Graham; twelve great-grandchildren, Maya and Grady Gilman, Brogan Gilman; Ella and Will Finnegan, Mackenna and Addison Stokes, Brody and Jadie Herbst, Harper, Charlie, and Halle Johnson; sister, Marion Sayler of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Jean Childs and Kathy Howard; nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, infant brother, Dorothy Jones, Sal (Fred) Oehler, Helen (Clarence) Strusz, Lyle (Doris) Jones; and extended family.
