Roger Alan Strand

Roger Alan Strand, age 77, of Mankato passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Rapidan. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service, at the church as well. Burial will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Rapidan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church, Rapidan. Livestream will be available on Roger’s obituary at www.mankatomortuary.com.

Roger was born to Harold and Vivian (Jones) Strand on May 1, 1945, in Mankato. He attended Rapidan High School and graduated in 1963. He enjoyed sports, and 4-H activities. Roger attended Mankato State and Bethany Lutheran College. He was a member of the Army Reserve and in 1968 his unit was called for duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on August 11, 1969. Roger had careers in farming, finance, and real estate.

Roger enjoyed snowmobiling, watching the Twins, and Vikings, and in his later years became a semi-pro walleye fisherman. Roger and his special friend, Ruth Sanders, enjoyed music concerts, taking care of the farm homestead, and visiting family.

Roger was a member of Lake Crystal American Legion, and Calvary Lutheran Church, Rapidan. He was supportive of his family and enjoyed living on the family homestead.

Roger is survived by his mother, Vivian Strand; special friend, Ruth Sanders; children, Kimberly Ernst, Nathan Strand, and Tonia (Hathaway) Johnson; siblings, Karleen (Joe) Ulman, and Gail (Dave) Caven, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Roger is preceded in death by his father, Harold Strand, and sister, Lori Strand.
