Roy John Schultz, 90, of North Mankato, died Friday, November 22, 2024.
A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 6, 2024, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Christ the King Lutheran Church or Ecumen Hospice.
Roy was born on December 18, 1933, in Hales Corners, WI, to Louis and Edna (Hilkene) Schultz. Roy had an older brother, Earl and older sister, Mildred. His parents owned a greenhouse where they raised hot house tomatoes for several Milwaukee restaurants. The three children worked there after school and weekends.
Roy graduated from grade school in Hales Corners and then attended Green Dale High School playing varsity baseball. He graduated from Green Dale High School in 1951.
He started working at Kurth Malting Company when he was 16 years old cutting the grass and washing cars. He became interested in their research pilot brewery producing beer.
Roy decided to get his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and agronomy at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating in 1958. He met the love of his life in chemistry class, Carol Lunz. They married the same month that he graduated and moved to Fridley, MN. He managed a large grain terminal and malting operation for Kurth Malting Company. From Kurth to Heileman Brewing Co. of La Crosse, WI and later back to Kurth. One last move to Mankato and Hubbard Milling Co. Roy remained there for 25 years, retiring in 1995.
Roy loved his golf games and family was important to him. He was so proud of his three sons, Mark, Todd, and David.
Roy is survived by his wife, Carol; three sons, Mark (Linda) of Branson, MO, Todd (Tracey) of North Mankato, and Dave (Cindy) of Elk River, MN; seven grandchildren, Kendra (Alex), Christopher (Kandice), Christian (Kylie), Tanner (Seanna), Ashlyn (Matt), Cole (Bailey), and Ethan (Megan); three great-grandchildren, Parker, Xavier, and Levi; and extended family.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; and his two siblings.
