Ruth M. Hummer, 81, formerly of Mapleton, died Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Cottagewood Senior Community of Mankato.

Funeral service will be 11am, Friday, June 4, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mapleton with visitation one hour prior. Ruth was born December 28, 1939 in Mapleton to Arthur and Eleanor (Rabenhorst) Annis, graduated from Mapleton High School in 1958 and married Irvin Hummer on December 27, 1964.  She attended Johnson Beauty School in Mankato and worked in a beauty salon in Truman on weekends. She kept up her cosmetology license until 1978.  While working at the Penny Photo Shop in Mankato, she enjoyed rollerskating and dances at the Kato Ballroom, where she met her husband Irvin. She became a housewife and raised children while they farmed in the Pemberton and Lafayette areas.  In 1972, they returned to the Mapleton area and Ruth began employment as a Laundry Aid with Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital for more than 25 years. Ruth worked at the Mapleton Community Nursing Home as a Unit Aid until her retirement in 2000.

She is survived by her four children,  two daughters and their husbands, Roxanne and Michael Schlasner of Rochester and Vickie and Bryce Walters of Waseca; two sons and their wives, Michael and Joyce Hummer of North Mankato and Mark and Heidi Hummer of Mapleton; eight grandchildren, Katherine Schlasner, Jacob Hummer, Joshua Hummer, Jeremiah Hummer, Matthew Hummer, Jamie Hummer, Austin Walters and Cheyenne Walters; one brother, Robert Annis and his wife Carol of Mapleton; one sister-in-law, Barbara Hummer of St. Clair; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin Hummer; sisters-in-laws, Ida Olson, Ethel Thorne, and Mary Hummer; and brothers-in-law, Harold Hummer and Elmer Hummer.
