Sam, also known as Hootie by his friends, was born on May 24, 1982, in Madelia, Minnesota, to Doug and Sue (Ross) Schutt. Sam was baptized as an infant and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Vernon Center. He was active in 4-H and very proud of the chickens and geese he raised and showed. Sam graduated from Maple River High School in 2000 and attended Pine City Technical College, studying taxidermy. Since the time he was a small child, Sam loved the outdoors and was happiest when fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature. One of his favorite things to do was to take part in the annual Brainerd Ice Fishing Tournament with friends. He frequently talked about moving to an acreage in northern Minnesota where he could do what he loved. He spent most of his adult life working in farrowing barns and took a lot of pride in his work. He had several beloved pets and many close friends with whom he enjoyed spending time.
Sam is survived by his parents, Doug and Sue Schutt of Amboy; siblings, Amber (Nathan) Lawrence, Andrea (Dan) DeShano, and Ross Schutt; three nieces; five nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sam was preceded in death by his grandparents, Myron and Joan Schutt and Robert and Marge Ross.
Unforeseen technical, internet, facility, and/or acoustical circumstances may produce a diminished end product. Please note, if the live stream does not appear, we are attempting to record and publish the service for later viewing.
