Sidney Frederich Spangenberg, 100, of North Mankato, died January 30, 2022 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 5, 2022 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in North Mankato. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2022 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Dr., in North Mankato and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato at a later date. The family kindly requests that masks are preferred to be worn. Livestreaming will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com.

Sid was born February 27, 1921 to Frederich and Irene (Schultz) Spangenberg in rural Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. He was baptized in Buffalo Lake and confirmed in New Ulm. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1940. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 serving in Australia, New Guinea, and The Philippines.

Sid married Elva Frank in 1942. She died in 1968. Sid married Betty Oftedahl in 1970. He worked as a dental technician for Wornson-Polzin Dental for 35 years retiring in 1986. In his free time, Sid enjoyed bowling, reading, woodworking, and sketching, especially birds.

Sid is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Kay (Dan) Ekenstedt, Alan (Mary) Spangenberg, Dean (Ruth) Oftedahl, Danny (Karen) Oftedahl, Connie (Mike) McCullough, and Laurie (Lynn) Abrahamson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Oftedahl; son-in-law, Roger Davidson; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Darhleen Spangenberg.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elva; children, Georgia Davidson and Duane Oftedahl; three sisters; and two brothers.  

The family would like to thank the staff of Oak Terrace Assisted Living and Mayo Hospice for their loving care.
