Stanley Lee Hohenstein, age 80 of Vernon Center, died on July 26, 2023 at his home in Vernon Center.

Stan was born on June 20, 1943 in Mankato, MN, son of Richard and Verna (Butson) Hohenstein, Herrlich. Stan grew up on his family's farm with his sister, Marilyn and brother Dean. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1961 and attended Mankato State College. He served 8 years in the US Army Reserve.

He was united in marriage to Mary Kay Mertesdorf in 1965. They farmed their family farms in Vernon Center Township until 2010. He was a part-time commercial truck driver in addition to farming.

Stan worked for Mankato Stone Company before starting his farming career. He was a board member of Garden City Farm Service and Crystal Coop for 22 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Stan and Mary Kay enjoyed summers at their cabin on Kjostad Lake near Orr, MN., and winters on Little Gasparilla Island in Florida.

Stan is survived by Mary Kay, his wife of 57 years, daughters Beth Hohenstein, Duluth, Rebecca (Jim) Wellbrock of Faribault and grandchildren Nathan, Laura and Graham Wellbrock, sister-in-law Debra (Mike) Curran, and nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn (Harlan) Lentz, brother Dean (Donna), and in-laws Donald and Doris Mertesdorf.     

Memorial service will be 10:30am Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Grace United Methodist Church, Vernon Center. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm Monday at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. Memorial donations may be designated to the Vernon Center Volunteer Fire Department, the Buyck Volunteer Fire Department or the donor's choice.
