Susan Ann Schweim

March 27, 1957 — October 23, 2024

St. Peter, MN

Susan Ann Schweim (née Hill), 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.

Born on March 27, 1957, in Chadron, Nebraska, Susan was the beloved daughter of Herbert and Hazel Hill. She grew up with a strong sense of community and family values, graduating from St. Peter High School in 1975. On August 28, 1976, Susan married Rick Hofman, and together they welcomed two wonderful children into the world, Rachel and Rick. Though their marriage ended in 1989, Susan remained a devoted mother and always ensured her children were loved and supported. Susan's life took a beautiful turn when she met Mike Schweim on a blind date set up by mutual friends. Mike's co-worker, who had married Susan's best friend since the 6th grade, introduced them, and from the moment they met, it was clear they had found something special. Their love grew quickly, and they shared a passion for 1950s music, dancing, and all forms of entertainment. Susan and Mike were united in marriage on February 15, 1992, and made their home in rural Mankato, where they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and devotion to each other. For 32 years, Susan and Mike shared an unbreakable bond, creating countless memories together. Susan's warmth and enthusiasm for life were evident in everything she did. She was a loyal friend, a loving wife, a proud mother, and a doting grandmother. Susan had a deep love for creative crafts, especially cross-stitching, which brought her immense joy. Every year, she took great pride in making personalized gifts for her nephews, children, and grandchildren, whether for birthdays or Christmas. These handcrafted treasures, filled with love and care, will remain cherished reminders of Susan’s thoughtfulness and artistic spirit. She also enjoyed genealogy and reading.

She was a former member of Norseland Lutheran Church and currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the church choir for several years. Sue enjoyed working with children, whether providing in home day care, volunteering for VBS, or volunteering for arts camp.

Susan's bright spirit will be deeply missed by her husband Mike, of Mankato; daughter, Rachel Hofman of Dothan, AL and her children, Tyler, Devon, and Sarah; son, Rick Hofman II of Mankato; brother, Jim (Sue) Hill of Shakopee and their children, Erin and Alyssa; brother, Steve (Beth) Hill of Texas and their children, Chris and Dan; sister, Karen (Dave Engstrom) McDonough of Mankato; parents-in-law, Marvin and Mary Schweim of Mankato; brothers-in-law, Mark (Jeanette) Schweim of Mankato and Marty (Andrea) Schweim of Fort Walton Beach, FL / Guam and their children, Alexander and Moritz (Lauren). She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and happiness, reminding us all to cherish every moment with those we hold dear.
