Sylvester "Sy" William Yerbich

Sylvester “Sy” William Yerbich, age 71, of Alberta, Canada passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 12, 2020. Private family burial will be held in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sy William Yerbich was born in Bemidji, MN on March 3, 1949.  He graduated from Black Duck high school in 1968 and immediately joined the United States Marine Corps. After serving from 1968 to 1969 in a recon unit in Vietnam, he returned to the United States where he attended U of M Duluth.  He was married in July of 1971 to Jan Ward.

He and Jan moved to Canada in 1972 where they resided for 49 years. Sy was a registered nurse for 36 years. After retirement he enjoyed a life filled with children, travel, gardening and other hobbies.

Sy will be bitterly missed by his wife, Jan; children, Liam, Freda and Robin; grandchildren, Gratia, Logan, Nyla and Leila; father-in-law, Ed; siblings, Carole, Peter, Frances, Josie, Amy, Quentin, Martin, Vincent and Loretta, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers. Sy will also be missed by a myriad of friends including Marine Corps buddies from his days in Vietnam.
