Terri Pollard, 92, of North Mankato, died May 22, 2021 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato.
Terri was born November 11, 1928 to Gustav and Norah (Courtenay) Mueller in Maymyo, Myanmar (Burma). At 8 months she was fostered by Albert and Leonora Floate who adopted her at age 3. They fled Burma in 1942 during the war with Japan. The family moved to England when she was 19. She later moved to Vancouver, Canada, then Bellevue, Washington and married A. Ivor Pollard, who passed away in December of 1962 while Terri was pregnant with their son, Andrew. She proudly and bravely raised Andrew alone, always carrying his father in her heart.
Her first job at the age of 16 was at Allied Land Forces, Southeast Asia Command as a clerk. Later in life while raising her son, she worked as a Director in Bellevue, Washington for Health and Hospital Services writing contracts for a group of hospitals on the west coast. She was instrumental in the building of a nursing home before she retired. In her free time, Terri enjoyed hiking, gardening, and dancing. She also built 2 homes during her life as her own general contractor. She was a wonderful storyteller who had an amazing life to share. She never settled anywhere for long living in many places throughout her life including Myanmar (Burma), India, England, Canada, Washington State, Oregon, and spent the last 11 years of her life in Minnesota to be near her son and his family. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato where she attended as much as she was able and enjoyed the Bible classes and pastoral care she received there. She was known as an intelligent and vibrant woman with a spunky sense of humor.
Terri is survived by her daughter-in-law, Evonne (Dane) Christensen; granddaughters, Thalia (Peter) Londgren and Samantha (Fiancé, Charles Stenzel) Pollard; great-grandchildren, Mariah, Aria, Edith, Linus, Toby, and one expecting; as well as a much loved niece (by adoption), Maureen (Maurice) Marshall of England.
Terri was preceded in death by her biological parents, Gustav and Norah Mueller; biological siblings, Gustav, Maxine, Vivienne, and Edward (Carol); (both Maxine & Vivienne were presumed dead as children in 1942 in the Burmese war); husband, A. Ivor Pollard; son, Andrew I. Pollard in 2014; her adoptive parents, Albert and Leonora Floate, and adoptive siblings, Marie (Phillip) Dykins & Cyril (Georgie) Floate.
