Vanessa Marie Ewert, 26, of Mankato, passed away December 28, 2020 in her parents’ arms.
A public visitation and service will be held practicing COVID-19 guidelines. Funeral Mass will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family.
Vanessa was born April 27, 1994 to Daniel and Karla (Hammerschmidt) Ewert in Mankato. She graduated from Mankato East High School in 2015. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, CT #552 Mankato. Vanessa cherished every day in faith spent with family and friends.
Vanessa was blessed with having many great family memories such as her Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World in Orlando, Fl and the road trip to Maryland. In high school Vanessa’s favorite class was choir, she enjoyed participating in all the choir concerts. She spent time watching Barney’s Howdy Friends, Bear in the Big Blue House Live, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson, The Case of the Shark Encounter, Family Feud and a new found liking of Guy Fieri’s Grocery Games. Vanessa looked forward to the simple things in life, such as time outside or tasting the different flavors of cotton candy.
Vanessa was the middle child of her family. She was honored to be the maid of honor at her older sister Victoria’s wedding and they loved spending time together. Vanessa especially enjoyed being able to attend her little brother Isaiah’s extra curricular activities and playing tricks on him. She had a great love for her nieces and was always patient with them. Vanessa was blessed with her cousin Felicia, which she and Victoria share a strong sisterly bond.
Vanessa’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, PCAs, support staff, teachers and so many more that cared for her. It was because of each person that Vanessa was able to live a wonderful life and spend 26 years with her family.
Vanessa is survived by her parents, Daniel and Karla; siblings, Victoria (Dustin) Fenner and Isaiah (Hailey Barker) Ewert; nieces, Chloee, Mia, and Emma; one nephew on the way; second mom, Vicki Ball; maternal grandparents, Edward and Irene Hammerschmidt; paternal grandparents, Joel and Janet Ewert; great-grandparents, Donald and Betty Ulman; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents.
