Verena K. Schugel

Verena K. Schugel, age 81 of Mankato passed away Sunday morning December, 22, 2019 at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 prior to the service. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Verena Schugel was born on April 23, 1938 in Aschaffenburg, Germany to Hans and Rosl Loeb. She graduated from Oxford University in England. Verena was united in marriage on June 6, 1964 at Aschaffenburg, Germany to William Schugel who was in the US Army. The couple moved to the Mankato Area in 1968. She worked with her husband as a Pharmacy Tech in the family business and raised the couple’s three sons.

Verena was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. She was a part of the German Club and taught German at the Lincoln Community Center for many years. Singing with the ACT on Alzheimer’s Singing Hills Choir was one of her favorite activities. An avid Opera fan, she also enjoyed flowers, travel and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her three sons, Dr. Joachim (Leanne) Schugel of Victoria, MN, Oliver (Monica) Schugel of Mankato, MN, Mario (Launa) Schugel of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Sawyer, Bishop, Keyan, and Maielle; two brothers, Joachim Loeb and Volker Loeb both of Germany; brother-in-law, Richard Schugel; nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents and husband.
