Viola Inga (Roerig) Hiller, age 105, formerly of Good Thunder, died Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton.
A private graveside funeral service will be held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Good Thunder. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family.
Viola was born September 21, 1914 to Otto and Anna (Wilking) Roerig in Lyra Township. She married Harold H. Hiller in St. John’s Lutheran Church on August 22, 1935. They farmed in Lyra Township until they retired in 1977. They built a home on their land in Good Thunder which was developed into the Hiller Subdivision. Harold died in 1981. Viola remained in the home until 2016 when she moved to the Mapleton Community Home.
Viola loved to travel, read, and work in her garden. Her travels took her to several countries in Europe and throughout the United States. She enjoyed spending the winters in Harlingen, Texas.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Norita (Wayne) Goutermont; 5 grandchildren, Galen (Donna), Scott (Sherrill), Lonie (Randy), Steven (Lori) Goutermont, and Ronda (David) Brunz; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and 9 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one brother, Walfred (Wally) Roerig.
