W. Wayne Cornish, age 86, of Mankato and formerly of Nicollet passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Mankato with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Livestream of the service will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com.
Wayne was born at home on June 5, 1938, to Wesley and Irene (Pahl) Cornish. Wayne graduated from Garden City High School in 1956. Following graduation, he joined the Army Reserve and served for six years. Wayne and Kathy were married November 26, 1960, at Garden City Baptist Church and resided in Vernon Center. In 1965 Wayne went to work for CFS in Vernon Center. He was offered his own blend plant in Nicollet in 1968. Wayne and Kathy moved to Nicollet where he owned and operated Nicollet Ag Services for over 20 years. After retiring Wayne bought a lake home near Nisswa. His main hobby was remodeling. He remodeled three homes and two businesses over the years.
Wayne liked traveling and he and Kathy took trips to Hawaii and Florida. Wayne had a great sense of humor and enjoyed talking, joking and being with people. He loved being with his family very much and was a mentor to many of them. Wayne cherished his dogs Cisco and Poncho and his beloved 18-year-old cat, Missy.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathy (Sargent) Cornish; siblings, Sharon Larson, Michelle (William) Negaard, Anthony Cornish, Denise (Bob) Grant; sisters-in-law, Rita Cornish, Barbara LeVasseur, Marj Sargent, and Joanie Sargent, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Irene Cornish; siblings, Maureen Sens, Jerome Cornish, Gregory Cornish, and Michael Cornish; brothers-in-law, Gordon Larson, Lewis Sargent, Dick Sargent, and Charles (Dorothy) Rector; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Sargent, and Muriel Sargent, as well as several nieces, and nephews.
