Elizabeth “Liz” Z. Sandt, age 59, of Lake Crystal, died Sunday, March 21, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN. From December 2019 until her death, Liz battled breast cancer with grace and dignity.
A Celebration of Liz’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and one hour before service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Minnesota Breast Cancer Coalition or Cornerstone UMC. Masks and social distancing will be observed at both venues.

Elizabeth was born October 28, 1961, in Mankato, to David D. and Joyce A. (Wilth) Zender. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1980 and from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1984 with a nursing degree. Liz was united in marriage to Michael R. Sandt on September 8, 1984, at the First United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal. Liz worked for Luther Memorial Home, Madelia for 2 years and then for the Minnesota Department of Health as a health facility inspector for 25 years, retiring in 2013. Liz volunteered for VINE after her retirement and was an active member of Cornerstone UMC, serving in many capacities and holding many offices. Liz enjoyed helping on the farm, gardening, traveling, watching the MN Twins, reading, spending time with her family and floating on the water.
Liz is survived by her husband, Mike of Lake Crystal; two children, Katy Jones and husband, Matt of Duluth, MN, Thomas Sandt and special friend, Hanna Mendenhall of Lake Crystal; father, David Zender of St. Peter; brother, Mark Zender and wife, Lisa of Mahtomedi; father-in-law, Bob Sandt of Lake Crystal; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; and extended family.
Liz was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce in 2020; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Sandt in 2011.
